#yesfilter

A microplastic awareness campaign

what is #yesfilter?

The #yesfilter campaign began in Spring 2020 by three students at the California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) campus. This campaign highlights the issue of microplastic pollution into our oceans, which is a little-known issue even within the scientific community.

We are called #yesfilter because it is a playful pun on the popular Instagram hashtag “#nofilter”, in which users post pictures without Instagram image filters. We twisted this popular hashtag to emphasize the need for specialized laundry filters and make it relevant to the next generation of environmental leaders.

our goals

  • To raise awareness about the microplastics issue
  • Empower consumers to consider buying laundry filters that filter out microplastics
  • Get specialized laundry filters installed on all washing machines on the CSUMB campus
